Accustomed to alpine ski slopes, you want to change and try something new. This is good, skiing is available in around ten different disciplines! Among them, cross-country skiing and ski touring, increasingly trendy sports.
While downhill skiing consists of going down groomed slopes, accessible via ski lifts, cross-country skiing is practiced on rather flat terrain or with a slight difference in altitude. The skis are long and narrow, and attach to the front of the boot.
Ski touring includes an ascent phase, followed by a descent phase. It is practiced off the prepared slopes, with rather light skis which attach only to the front of the foot, like cross-country skis.
While downhill skiing favors speed and thrills, ski touring and cross-country skiing allow you to admire the landscape and take the time to recharge your batteries. Neither requires much technique, and the sliding experiences are quite similar.
These two endurance sports are perfect if you want to discover the mountains differently, at your own pace. Before purchasing your equipment, we nevertheless advise you to take a few outings. You can purchase equipment in our ski rental store in Samoëns 1600.
